Graton’s New Eco-Friendly Wastewater Treatment Plant

Graton will soon have a new disinfection system for its wastewater treatment plant. We have picked a pasteurization process to do this, the same heating process used to kill dangerous bacteria in milk and other dairy products. It will meet the state and federal water quality standards, and it means we no longer have to use chlorine, a dangerous and toxic greenhouse gas, for the final stage of wastewater treatment.

Pasteurization Technology Group’s CEO, Greg Ryan, Jr. was interviewed by NPR affiliate KCLU’s Lance Orozco.  They discussed the wastewater treatment system that is being tested at the City of Ventura (CA). 

PTG has an innovative system that utilizes the biogas from the facility to help drive a turbine that generates electricity.  They harness the waste heat to disinfect the wastewater stream without any of the harmful chemicals used in most chlorine-based treatment facilities.
